Mattresses
Why and When Should You Change Your Mattress?
Mattresses should be changed every eight years, as the average mattress life span is about nine years. However, most people change their mattress between fifteen and twenty years. The problem is that after eight years of weight and use, the mattress does not offer the same support that it once did. When your skeletal system is not given adequate support, you may wake up feeling sore or achy in the morning. Lack of proper support for your bones and muscles could even lead to permanent damage. The platform and design of your bed should match your body and sleeping style. If you are experiencing sharp back pain or frequent leg cramps, you most likely need a higher quality or new mattress.
Over time, your skin, sweat, and hair age your mattress as well. Even with protective covers, mattresses collect oils from the body, because we sweat in our sleep. Maintenance and plastic cannot prevent dead skin from making its way onto the mattress, and they also cannot prevent dust mites that feed off the skin. Not only does this ruin the mattress and cause unpleasant odor, but dust mites are filled with histamines that can ruin your sleep by activating your allergies. Frequent bedding changes and mattress pads can prolong the life of your mattress from nine years to about ten or eleven years, but we don’t recommend going beyond that time period.
The cost of your mattress divided across the eight to ten years you keep it in use is impressive! Our mattresses are sold individually, but we suggest changing the box spring at the same time. The box spring is equally important in providing comfort. When you spend a third of your life sleeping, comfort is priority!
Why does each mattress retailer have a different name for the same mattress?
The mattress companies give each retailer the opportunity to set their own pricing structure. Oftentimes, this creates confusion for customers. We make it our policy to find the lowest price structure for the same mattress and deliver that price to you. If you need a mattress comparison on Sealy, Simmons, or Stearns & Foster, give us a call at 1-877-976-6693 and we will gladly give you our equivalent model.
